Dead Weidian and Taobao links — why spreadsheet URLs break

A spreadsheet row is a pointer to a Chinese marketplace page, not a warehouse SKU. When the live page 404s, that is seller churn — not a broken agent.

The row is an ID, not inventory

Taobao/Tmall product pages are keyed by an item id. 1688 offer pages are keyed by an offer / product id. Weidian item pages work the same way: one id, one SKU. When the seller deletes the listing, migrates shop, or takes the id down, every spreadsheet cell that still shows that string is a tombstone. Open-platform product APIs return “product does not exist” for a bad id — USFans cannot invent a replacement SKU from a 404.

Community W2C lists have always worked like this: the link saves hunting time, then you still open it yourself. A thumbnail on this index can look fine while the marketplace page is already gone. Discord forks and Google Sheet copies freeze those ids. Spreadsheet vs Google Sheets.

Why the URL dies

Listings are not a permanent catalog. Sellers rotate seasonal SKUs, rename shops, merge Weidian storefronts, or keep the page up and delete your size. Copyright blur on Taobao is not the same as a 404 — the PDP can still be buyable. A login wall or empty redirect is a different failure: retry in a normal browser, but you still need a live product-detail URL. Which links paste.

What usually happened

Cause What you see What to do
SKU removed 404 / item not found Pick another live row in the same lane
Shop renamed or migrated Old id dies; similar goods reappear elsewhere Open a fresh product-detail URL — do not reuse the old id
Variant sold out Page loads; your size or color is gone Soft miss. Skip or find a replacement listing
Wrong URL type Agent cannot resolve an item PDP only — not a shop root, search, or album
Share / QR / screenshot Landing has no item id Copy the address bar after the product page loads

Weidian vs Taobao vs 1688

All three churn. Weidian shops are often small and rotate faster — “worked last week” is common. Taobao usually has richer variant UI; popular ids still disappear, and blur does not by itself mean dead. 1688 is wholesale: confirm you are on a single offer with a unit price (and MOQ if used), not a factory homepage. A 1688 company site plus “find the black one” in remarks is not a paste.

Do not paste a dead link “just in case”

The buyer still has to open a resolvable product page. A dead row wastes a check and will not resurrect the SKU. USFans’ public App Store listing is product sourcing plus HD photos before shipment — there has to be a product first. Search the same silhouette in a live catalog instead of hunting the 2024 string. How to shortlist.

Before you paste

  1. Open the live marketplace URL, not only the card image.
  2. Confirm title, price, and size or color options are visible.
  3. Copy the address-bar product URL, not a truncated share snippet.
  4. If it 404s, shortlist another row, then follow how to buy.
  5. After a live paste, still plan warehouse QC before freight. QC photos.

A 404 is deleted inventory, not a secret restock code.

This post was rewritten from this site’s spreadsheet and paste-URL guides: a row is a marketplace item/offer id, not warehouse stock. Platform APIs fail when that id is gone; Sheet copies freeze the old string. Not copied from another spreadsheet-blog’s dead-link post.

  1. 1688 Open Platform — productInfo — Documented error: product does not exist / bad product id — the same failure as a dead spreadsheet offer URL.
  2. Aliyun note — taobao.item.get / detail_url — Taobao/Tmall products are addressed by item id in the detail URL; if that id is gone, there is nothing to buy.
  3. Google — make a copy of a file — Forked Sheets keep yesterday’s ids; they do not re-check Weidian.
  4. App Store — USFans-Shop China, ShipAnywhere — The agent sources a product and then offers HD inspection — a 404 string is not a product.
